This website is dedicated to the activities of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Chair for Women in Science and Engineering (Atlantic Region). Dr. Tamara Franz-Odendaal, Associate Professor in Biology at Mount Saint Vincent University, is the NSERC Atlantic Chair for 2011-2015. The NSERC awards five chair holders across Canada for a five year term. For more information about this chair program, please visit www.nserc-crsng.gc.ca.
The program of activities for the NSERC Atlantic Chair include: - Establishing a network for junior high and high school girls to meet female role models working in science and engineering fields.
- Running webinars across Atlantic Canada for teachers, guidance counselors and high school students to broaden their knowledge of careers in Science and Engineering.
- Holding community information meetings for parents, teachers, and students.
- Conducting surveys to assess how girls perceive careers in science and engineering, and how they make their career decisions.
- Running summer and mobile science camps across the Atlantic region.
- Producing role model videos as a resource for students, parents and teachers.
