Research Plenary Sessions

Concurrent Sessions

Our Monday plenary session will feature a keynote presentation by Lionel Laroche, who will give us practical tools for improving our interactions with students from diverse backgrounds, and practical information to share with our students on how to be successful at work. Our colleagues at Waterloo recommended Lionel because he did an excellent job of coupling humour with serious content, had the audience roaring with laughter, and had people commenting on his presentation for days on after. He was considered by many to be the best speaker in many years.

Tuesday morning’s plenary will be devoted to recent research findings. Jeela Jones, University of Ottawa, will be presenting the results from her recent study of ‘The Lived Experiences of Co-op Students’ and our BC colleagues will share some early findings from the BC multi-school study of Co-operative Education and Student Engagement, Recruitment and Retention.

Wednesday morning you get to relax a little and let Bill Carr, a maritime comedian, preacher, actor and motivational speaker, give you some of his insights into staying energized and excited in the midst of change.

Our concurrent sessions offer a range of topics from practical to philosophical considerations. There will be a series of sessions on using Web 2.0 applications in co-op from twittering to on-line discussions to e-portfolios. Another of the more practical sessions will cover Telephone Excellence. This is a special two hour session that will teach you how to leave messages that get returned, work around gatekeepers, build relationships over the phone and master the art of cold calling prospective employers.
