F. Media

Interviews have been conducted frequently by various media regarding fisheries and gender issues. Highlights of this experience have included being the invited guest on the CBC Radio Maritime Region show, Radio Noon; a number of interview appearances on Country Canada (CBC National TV) and Land and Sea (CBC Regional TV), and an interview appearance in the film Long Line.

Interviews have been given to print journalists working with publications such as The Economist, MacLean's, Readers Digest as well as local, regional and national newspapers.

This experience is mentioned as a demonstration of conviction and of practice regarding the responsibilities of researchers to disseminate specific findings/information and to participate/contribute to public education and debate.

WORK IN PROGRESS

(with V. Thiessen, D. MacInnes and S. Jentoft), primary research on the socio-economic dimensions of local-level and state fisheries management systems(SSHRCC funded projects, 1988-90 and 1992-97), various essays developing nations of tradition, custom, local culture and social structure in relation to factors such as fisher's incomes, dependence on government transfer payments and enterprise/household reproduction. Also, a book-length manuscript is being developed which focuses on local culture, socio-economic differentiation and gender relations within fishing communities and fishing households.

Further analysis and write-up of survey and cross-cultural data concerning the relation between secular defilement, pornography, gender, culture and power.
