Overview
Each
year, approximately 10-14 students will be admitted to the doctoral program,
six (four) at the Mount and four (three) each at Acadia University and St.
Frances Xavier University, ONLY if a program and supervisor is available for
each prospective student. All students take most of their courses together
as a community of learners.
Residency
requires 14 months
full-time spent completing (a) six courses (4
units/24 credit hours), plus (b) any Special Topics or Independent Studies
and (c) then up to five years full- or part-time to complete the Proposal
and the Dissertation (3 units/18 credit hours). During
the first year of their program, all students meet face-to-face on site at
one of the participating university’s campuses for two courses during July.
During the Fall and Winter semesters, all students take three more courses
via distance (as well as any Special Topics or Independent Studies required
by the IDAC at Admissions). Also, during the first full academic year
(July-July), while completing GEDU 9001-9005/EDUC 8013-8053 and any Special
Topics or Independent Studies, all students complete a Comprehensive
Portfolio GEDU 9010/EDUC 8109, working at their home institution with their
supervisor and committee members. During
the second year of their program, they meet face-to-face in July to defend
their portfolio and complete a Proposal Writing Workshop. Individual
students then work at their home institution with their respective
supervisor and committee members to prepare their proposal and complete
their dissertation (GEDU 9100/EDUC 899Z, 8990).
